An egg that was worth 10 points!

25 minutes to plan-10 minutes to construct-And a whole lot of excitement!
Last week we had an in-class group project, where each group had to construct an egg protector woth 8 straws and limited amount of tape.
As I mentioned, our goal was to construct an egg protector so that it didn't break even after dropping it on the floor. We started out by throwing out ideas. After analyzing all the alternatives we made a tactical plan, implemented and evaluated the results.
We cut the papers and shaped them like straw and egg. Hence, we practically examined how we were going to work it out. Moreover, since we had to drop the egg by standing on the table, we decided not to send the tall person.
In a nutshell, I think our group came up with a good idea, but if we had a little bit more tape and time while constructing we could have possibly prevented the egg from cracking. Even though our planning seemed quite efficient to us and each one of us in our group contributed equally, the time didn't seem to be on our side.

  1. Time wasn't on my group's side too. We thought 10 minutes would be enough to make our model but when we started making the model, we knew right away that our design was not going to work. The egg was just not protected enough so we took our original design and added to it to add more protection. Changing the design really took up a lot of time and we used the whole 10 minutes. I feel like our model would have been better too if we had a few more minutes.

  2. Yes, it seems time wasn't on any group's side this time around. Perhaps, if we could have merged the planning and construction phase together, groups might have done better.

  3. Our group also selected the shortest person( that was me) to drop the the egg,but did not work. Time was one of the drawback for our group too. If we had more time, we might have done better.

  4. It's funny how you sent the shortest person up there, our group did not think of that, and we ended up sending the tallest person in our group to drop the egg. Sadly we failed as well!
